Tourism in Western Australia 2023

WhereState Reception Room, Fraser's Restaurant, 60 Fraser Ave, Kings Park WA
WhenFriday 3 March 2023, 7:15am - 9:00am

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the tourism landscape globally. Border closures caused visitor flows to dry up almost entirely, and travel and study plans were disrupted. And Western Australia’s tourism industry has paid a heavy price, with substantial impacts on the livelihoods of tourist-related business owners, their employees and communities more broadly in Perth and across regional areas of the state.

Prepared by the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre (BCEC) in collaboration with the Tourism Research Cluster (TRC) at Curtin University, this Focus on Industry report examines the dynamics of the tourism industry before and after the COVID-19 crisis and outlines the road to recovery for the sector in Western Australia.

This report includes findings from a state-wide survey, conducted in December 2022 and January 2023, to better understand residents’ perceptions of tourism throughout the various tourism regions of Western Australia.

The information gathered from these avenues provides novel and current insights on the tourism sector in Western Australia, with an aim to help inform policy making and support sustainable tourism development in WA.
