The Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre invites you to “WA in the Spotlight: Housing and land use in Western Australia.” New perspectives on affordability and productivity. There is no doubt that access to affordable housing promotes social wellbeing in the everyday lives of Australians. However, housing costs in WA have increased at rates consistently above the national average during the past decade. Less attention is paid to the connections between housing and the economy. Yet, housing commands a significant share of investment, employment and consumption in the state and nationally. This workshop brings together leading researchers and policymakers from Australia to shed new perspectives on affordability and housing’s links to economic productivity in WA. The workshop will feature presentations by:

  • Associate Professor Greg Costello, Curtin University – Land supply and new housing in WA
  • Associate Professor Steven Rowley, AHURI-Curtin Director – The links between urban regulation and housing affordability
  • Emeritus Professor Gavin Wood, RMIT & Curtin – The connections between housing and economic development.

The three presenters will be joined by two senior policy and industry representatives in a panel discussion.
